Amish Country Back Road Tour Options

Garden Gate Get-A-Way Bed & Breakfast works with local tour operators to provide our guests with back road tours of Amish Country. You can even have dinner in an Amish home! We'll be glad to make these reservations for you when you reserve your guest room. You can choose from 2-hour to 5-hour tours or the specialty tours listed below, with or without a meal in an Amish home. Advance Reservations Required.

We also have an Amish neighbor who provides dinner in their home without taking a tour. The menu varies but includes dinner, beverage, and dessert.

Please Note: Many of the packages listed below require us to call in a final head count to the tour guides, limo drivers, restaurants, spas, etc., at least 2-4 weeks prior to the date. Please make your reservations as far in advance as possible to insure availabilty.

Every Monday - Wednesday in 2008

Monday, check-in the White Oak Inn at Danville. Tucked into a peaceful valley on the Kokosing River, The White Oak Inn is close to Kenyon College, the Bridge of Dreams and the Kokosing Gap Trail. Dine tonight in their well-known restaurant. Linen tablecloths, fresh flowers and candles set the mood. The service is relaxed and unhurried. Menus are planned daily to take advantage of the finest produce, meat and fish available. Fresh herbs and vegetables from the inn garden are used in season. All soups, salad dressings and desserts are made right at the inn, many from treasured family recipes. On Tuesday morning, when you check-out, we'll give you a map to Holmes County Amish Country. You may wish to make a few stops along the way at places such as Bowden Bells, Treaty Line Pottery, or Prairie Lane Furniture. When you arrive in Amish Country stop at Garden Gate Get-A-Way Bed & Breakfast where you will be staying tonight. Your innkeepers will map out directions to visit places of interest to you such as an Amish candle maker, Amish furniture stores, a cheese factory, country crafts, gift shops, etc. They can also make dining recommendations for you or make reservations for you to have dinner in an Amish home for an additional fee. In the evening you can unwind at their nightly campfire and visit with other guests. Make time to sit on a porch swing or glider rocker and enjoy the gardens too. On Wednesday we'll give you a map to your next destination: Olde Worlds Bed & Breakfast and Tea Room. Along the way make a stop in Walnut Creek at Coblentz Chocolate Factory. Watch them making and hand dipping chocolates and maybe buy a few to take home. When you continue on your journey you will pass through Sugarcreek. Make a stop at the new Heini's Cheese Gourmet Market. Sample locally made cheese and discover many food items that are all made in Ohio! Just east of Heini's is Ohio's 2nd largest winery, Breitenbach Winery. If you choose to stop here you will have the opportunity to sample many award-winning wines. Just a few miles down the road you will come to Olde World B&B and Tea Room. Olde World B&B was originally a farmhouse that was built in 1881. The first thing you will notice when you enter this Victorian-style B&B is the grand Walnut staircase and four-panel doors with ornamental hinges that give the place a feeling of elegance. We'll have reservations at 12:30 p.m. for a 4-course tea luncheon for you. Menus are created from scratch in their kitchen with local ingredients and their own fresh herbs and vegetables from the garden. After lunch you will receive tickets to go tour the famous Warther's Carvings Museum and Knife Factory. You will receive a narrated tour of the museum and have a chance to shop in their gift shop. They are also known for their beautiful gardens and Mrs. Warther's button collection. After your tour you are free to explore the area or check-in at Olde World B&B. Your innkeepers will be glad to help you with dining options this evening. Relax over a delicious, homemade breakfast on Thursday morning before checking out and heading home.

If you really want to get up close to the Amish, try one of the 12-hour progressive meal tour packages! Throughout the day you will have breakfast, soup & salad, dinner and desserts in 3 different Amish homes! In between the various courses you will tour the mural at Behalt Amish & Mennonite Heritage Center to learn about the history of the Amish & Mennonites. You will take a back roads tour and learn all about the culture and customs. The Setting: La Sperenza Restaurant. Pepi Roni was found murdered in the kitchen of his renowned New York City eatery, La Sperenza. Pepi had been shot in the back with his own pistol. Tonight, his family and friends have gathered to pay their respects to poor Pepi and eat a feast of Italian food in his honor. Will you be the murderer? Murder Mystery Menu includes: Sparkling Juice & Cheese appetizer, pizza, antipasto salad, Baked Ziti with Garlic Bread Sticks, Dessert & Coffee.

This is the ultimate package for wine lovers! Check-in on Friday and unwind at our evening campfire. We encourage you to come in costume because we're giving away a prize for Best Costume! We'll also have a pumpkin carving contest at the campfire (we'll provide pumpkins) and we'll have prizes! You will find a special Trick-or-Treat Bag in your guest room when you arrive. Have a leisurely breakfast on Saturday morning and visit a few shops before your adventure begins. Late afternoon guests will be picked up at the B&B. Your first stop will be at Heini's Gourmet Market where you will find everything from wine and cheese to other foods made in Ohio. Next stop is Pearl Valley Cheese where you can sample some locally made cheese and maybe buy a few for later. Now you are off to our destination...Ravens Glenn Winery. We'll start with a winery tour, followed by a wine tasting of their award-winning wines and then have dinner in their restaurant. Your dinner consists of: Crab Cake Appetizer, Lobster Bisque Soup, House Salad, entree choice of Salmon Encroute with a Light Dill Cream Sauce OR Sauteed Veal Cutlet with a Cabernet Brown Sauce, and Chocolate Zin Cake with Bavarian Creme for dessert. November 21-23, 2008

Take a step back in time as you experience the simple pleasures and family togetherness of Christmas in Ohio's Amish Country. Visit an Amish lady who makes and sells handmade candles. Each guest will receive a Christmas candle. Have you ever wondered where the Amish shop for Christmas? You’ll stop at one of the locally owned country stores where many of the Amish do their Christmas shopping. End the afternoon with a Hearty Christmas Meal in an Amish home ~ The meal will consist of a Seven Layer Salad, Homemade Bread, Turkey, Ham, Sweet Potato Casserole, Noodles & Dressing! For dessert we will enjoy a Fruit Cobbler and Cherry-Cheese Cake along with a special holiday punch and coffee. A special gift awaits you here. You will play some traditional evening games with the children and sing a few Christmas Carols.

Chastity Corman, daughter and sole heir of the Majestic Confectionery fortune is about to marry Miles Belvedere. Miles is the sole heir to the Belvedere Ship fortune. This marriage will create a true dynasty... if it takes place! This package include some Spa Treatments!

Murder at Mardi Gras: Murder Mystery Weekend

February 20 - 22, 2009

The Setting: It's Mardi Gras in New Orleans and the Krewe of Midas is holding their annual masquerade ball. As you would expect from the most exclusive and elite Krewe in New Orleans, it will be an evening of gowns, glamour, gossip & MURDER! Old scores are settled and family secrets are exposed when Pierre DuPre, the King of the Krewe, is murdered.

The party guests must work together to determine who strangled the Mardi Gras King with a priceless vintage necklace! This mystery is played over 4 rounds where you will enjoy cocktails, appetizers, sandwiches and dessert.

Horsing Around In Amish Country

Check out the Holmes County Rails To Trails hiking, biking, walking & horseback riding path in Ohio's Amish Country! Bring your horse to our Amish Country B&B when you come to ride the Rails To Trails path. Rails to Trails is part of a National program where old railroad tracks are being pulled to create hiking, biking, walking, bird watching and horseback riding experiences. The Holmes County section is the only one in the USA where you might pass Amish buggies on your adventure! Our Amish neighbor has facilities to board your horse. They will provide grain, hay and water in your boarding fee, along with a place to park your horse trailer. While we're only 2 miles from Berlin, we are surrounded by farms and you can even ride your horse around the back roads of our B&B. This is your chance to ride the Trail, as well as explore Amish Country's cheese factories, bakeries, restaurants, shops, antiques, wineries, museums & more! We'll make it simple by packaging your room fee with the horse boarding fee and you only have to pay 1 time! For guests who don't own a horse, we can set up horseback riding at a near by stable. They will not let you take the horses out to the Rails To Trails path, however you will get to walk, trot and run the horses with an experienced guide in the beautiful rolling hills of Holmes County.
